Article Title: Rustin Mayse Claims $50,000 Victory at Farmington
Article Date: 5/3/2007
Article:
Farmington, NC: 18-year old Rustin Mayse added to his remarkable racing resume in a huge way Saturday night as the Frost, TX high school student earned a $50,000 payday at the Big Bucks Bonanza at Farmington Dragway. Mayse, who earned a complete turn-key dragster last season for winning the DragRaceResults.com/Goodyear Bracket Racing Series national championship, drove his American Race Cars dragster thru a ten round field of the most talented sportsman drivers in the nation to claim the top prize with a final round defeat of Ken Sullivan.

“How about that?” Laughed a humble Mayse. “I mean, I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary. I had a good day on the tree, and my car was right there all day long--but that doesn’t always mean you should win. Things just fell into place, I made good runs when I had to, but I also got a couple breaks when I needed them. I think that’s true about any time you come away with a victory.”

Mayse humble Texas upbringing won’t let him tell you that he strung together five consecutive .00-reaction times leading up to the final round, or that he used track position to push final round opponent Sullivan into a breakout despite an off pace .023 reaction when he dumped to a two-above 4.81 for the victory.

While Mayse’s $50,000 triumph is obviously the biggest financial win of his young career, he has become a consistent big dollar winner throughout the Southwest, claiming several $5,000 and $10,000 victories despite his commitment to high school academics and athletics that prevent him from racing every weekend. Good news for Rustin and his Mayse Motorsports team is bad news for the competition: Rustin graduates this month, which will greatly free up his schedule as he plans to pursue many of the big dollar races throughout the country in the next six months!

Rustin thanked a long list of friends and supporters for their role in his success. “First and foremost, I have to thank my father Robbie, my uncle Monte and our whole family. Our racing team is really a family operation, and I can’t imagine it any other way. I also want to thank Randy Tanksley for all his help.” Mayse also credited a long list of marketing partners who play a role in the teams continued success: Reeder Disributors, American Race Cars, Brodix Cylinder Heads, TCI Automotive, Comp Cams, Milodon, Auto Meter, Holley Performance, AFCO Racing, Hoosier Tires, and Advanced Product Design.
