Article Title: Richardson Wheels new American Dragster to back-to

Richardson Wheels new American Dragster to back-to-back $10,000 Victories at Rocket City Nationals!

This is not a broken record... If you’ll recall, a fella named Scotty Richardson debuted a new American Race Cars built dragster back in May, and drove it to a Win and Runner-Up finish at the Southern Survival Shootout at Music City Raceway. That machine belonged to Richardson’s friend and business partner, Rusty Fox.

Two weeks ago, Richardson broke in his own new American Race Cars Patriot Series Swing-Arm dragster at the Jeg’s U.S. Open Bracket Championships in Hamilton, OH. There, although Richardson claimed a $20,000 victory at the wheel of his Chevy II, he failed to make a late appearance in the new dragster. That changed quickly last week at Huntsville Dragway’s Rocket City Nationals.

At the North Alabama facility, Richardson drove his new mount to not one, but two $10,000 victories, besting Tony Helms in the Sunday final before knocking off Chris White in Monday’s final stanza. The machine, powered by an APD 582 cubic inch engine and two APD alcohol carburetors ran flawlessly in the mid-4.70 range as Richardson mowed through the competition.

“What can you say?” Asked Richardson. “The car works great--the guys at American have done their homework. And the bigger motor with the tunnel ram setup is mean. I really like getting to be the faster car again; I think it’s more of a psychological advantage than anything else.”

Richardson, a longtime APD customer, was actually persuaded by John Kyle and the APD staff to give an American Race Cars Dragster a try earlier this season. “APD is right down the road from Mark Horton and Travis Colangelo’s American Race Cars shop. Having raced with Mark in the past, I knew he was a real stand up guy with a great reputation. John kind of put us together, and it’s been a great deal. On this car, John built the motor, dynoed it, carried it over to American--and then Mark and Travis and the guys put everything together. It was a completely hands free deal for me, and I couldn’t be happier with the finished product.”

In addition to American Race Cars and APD, Richardson credited Strange Engineering, TCI Automotive, Hoosier Racing Tires, BMF Cylinder Heads, and Comp Cams for their support.
