Jerry Gendreau from Owasso, Okla., won't be driving his familiar 75 Vega in IHRA Hurst Hot Rod this year. Last August, he traded the Vega and a hunk of cash for Earle Folses 86 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais, Don Ness ex-Pro-Stock car.
Folse raced the car in IHRA Top Sportsman and Gendreau plans to run the Cutlass in the IHRA Lakewood Super Rod (9.90) class. He is currently having a 496-cid engine built by eighty-year-old Tulsa racer/engine builder Gene Carter of Carter/Davis Machine Shop.In addition, Gendreau will be using the lethal combination that drove him to first place (Top ET ) in the Summit Super Series at Tulsa Raceway Park; a Transmission Specialties Pro 5000, Coan converter and 1150 alcohol Dominator built by John Kyle at APD Carburetors.
Gendreaus sponsors include Finish Line Racewear, Gene Carter, his mom Dot Gendreau and his wife Jeanne Gendreau.
