Article Title: APD Introduces New Diaphragm Bypass Regulator Article Date: 12/21/2005 Article:
The experts at Advanced Product Design are at it again. This time, the carburetor and fuel system magnate from Western Ohio has developed a new diaphragm bypass regulator for use on belt driven fuel systems in drag racing and circle track applications.
The Bypass Regulator isnt a new idea--were not reinventing the wheel here, just perfecting it, said APD representative Jerry Dooley. This unit was designed with the racer in mind, because thats what John and the guys at the shop are: racers.
Benefits to the new APD bypass regulator include: a smaller, lighter, more compact design than any other on the market. The APD bypass regulator features a user friendly jet passage, with a smaller cavity than that of competitors, which allows the user to easily install the idle jet (a standard Holley jet) with a screwdriver. Plus, designers put wrench flats at each outlet, making installation and plumbing less tedious.
More importantly, in-house and independent research and testing has found that the APD diaphragm bypass regulator develops an exceptionally flat, smooth fuel curve, effectively eliminating fuel pressure spikes.
The fuel curve on this thing is remarkable, said Dooley. We see so many racers depending on the old brass poppet setups. A data logger or dyno session shows the superiority of the bypass regulator. The old style can actually stick and move during a run, effectively raising and lowering float position at various points of a pass, which richens or leans the engine. The problem there is that its not a its broke, we need to fix it kind of problem. Rather, it sneaks up on racers, and rears its head intermittently, so its hard to diagnose. The bypass regulator is the remedy, and weve developed the most user-friendly piece on the market today.
The APD bypass regulator features a 3/8 N.P.T. inlet and a -8 O-ring return outlet, making it easily installed and compatible with most aftermarket fuel logs, and the regulator is totally rebuildable--a necessity for alcohol competitors. The APD diaphragm bypass can be mounted off a diverting valve inline, or off the fuel log near the carburetor (which APD recommends).
The Diaphragm Bypass Regulator (APD Part Number 6020) is machined in-house at APD, and is available through the company and its dealers at the retail price of just $89.99.
